Can I become a professional dancer?
I asked this last week, but forgot to tell you guys latin/ballroom, sorry, thanks for the feedback.
I have never had professional dance training but I do want to become a professional latin/ballroom dancer. I see so you think you can dance as a motivation for me to be on that show. I turned 17 one month ago and am going to start training. I can dance now, I have some natural talent, but cannot really dance that well with standard shoes on. I would like to try out for so you think you can dance in four years when I am 21. I also would think If I make it far there, I could then become a pro on Dancing with the stars, like Lacey Schwimmer, Dmitry Chaplin, Chelsie Hightower. Sounds way out of my league? Yes, probably, but I plan on training four hours, monday through thursday, and 8 hours friday through sunday. Totally 40 hours a week. Tell me what you think dancers…
Don’t forget about Sabra, she only danced for four years and she WON, sytycd.
I think for Latin/ballroom 17 is an okay age to start training. I suggest you might want to take some ballet along with that to help with core strength, or rhythmic gymnastics might suite that “style” of dance.
Sabra was a gymnast and not really a “dancer”. For competition dance they seem to care more about how high you can hold your leg rather then if you can really dance. She could never get a job in a ballet company or concert dance company. There have been some great dancers on that show that can dance like Danny Tidwell, but he was a professionally trained ballet dancer with ABT. One of my daughter’s current friends is on the show now in the top 6 last I heard. (I really never watch the show so I don’t know where they are at now. ) She is a classically trained dancer who is dancing more “showy” for the show. If you are not born incredibly flexible with great facility you will not get on that show. That seems to matter more then dance training there. Do you really think that show will still be on in four years?
If you were born with that kind of facility, then I think you may be able to do it. Why not try for SYTYCD.
