Today, Bloch is a widely known designer of good quality footwear and dance clothing, a reputation which began about 77 years ago in 1932, when Mr Jacob Bloch began making pointe shoes by hand.  A fan of ballet and dance in general, Jacob Bloch often went to watch dance performances.  It was on one of these visits that he noticed a young dancer who could benefit from better shoes in order to stay on pointe.  These shoes were soon ready and proved successful.  News of the amazing items of footwear spread quickly in the dancing community, and demand increased.

During the 1930s large numbers of dance companies from all kinds of countries throughout the world toured Australia.  Through discovering how well made and practical Jacob Bloch’s shoes were, they helped the knowledge of these specialist items of footwear to spread globally.  Some of the best known performers, for example De Basil’s Monte Carlo Russian Ballet (the original Ballet Russe) travelled in the area and many of their performers had new shoes made by Jacob Bloch to their exacting individual specifications.  Among these were David Lichine, Spessiva, Baranova, Riabouchinskaya and Toumanova.  Jacob Bloch was able to produce these amazing items because of his passion for dance, and because he understood the needs of dancers and how they varied.

Today the company still retain Jacob Bloch’s passion and attention to detail.  The product range has expanded into dance clothing and a variety of shoe styles, and products are exported to many countries across the globe.  Some items of clothing produced include leotards, tights, separates, knit wear and accessories.  The brand seeks to create clothes which can enhance a performance through practicality and comfort, allowing dancers to achieve to the best of their ability, unhindered by impractical or uncomfortable garments.  As a brand they are proud of their commitment to enhancing and appreciating dance of all kinds.  Seeing the creation of garments as a form of art further enhances the relationship of designers with their clients, which in these scenarios in crucial.  Bloch pride themselves on this deep appreciation and understanding of dance and dancers.

Choosing dance clothes and shoes can be quite difficult for those who are new to it all, and choosing reputable brands such as Bloch is a good way to ensure items are going to be of a certain quality.  Dance teachers and schools often advise which style of shoe or garment is best suited to their classes, and tend to recommend purchasing products made by well known brands to be confident about design and quality.  It is always nice for dancers to know that their dancewear brand shares their enthusiasm and passion for the art and sport that is dance, whether it be classical ballet, jazz or hip hop.  Dance unties people all over the globe, and can inspire and amaze.  Dance shoe and garment manufacturers like Bloch have an amazing understanding of both the physical, emotional and psychological needs of dancers, and their clothing ranges and footwear reflect this.
